Normality returns

So, after a full 24 hours of gastrointestinal hell, the debilitating stomach cramps and horrid nausea have finally subsided. And, honestly, I can think of few things worse (aside from maybe torture. And living without air conditioning.) than having to deal with a house full of kids on a day when all you want to do is curl up on the floor next to the toilet. But, alas, I survived.

Fortunately Joshua and Bella were both more than willing to help me out yesterday, which was a great relief. Joshua trailed around after Lucas, making sure that he didn’t erroneously ingest any Lego’s and keeping track of his sippy cup, lest it unknowingly roll under the couch and turn into something akin to a festering vessel of soon-to-be cottage cheese. When it was time for lunch Joshua hoisted him up into the high chair – which was not easy feat considering the fact that Lucas weighs roughly half of what Joshua does – and got him all buckled in and ready to go. By the time I’d made my way out to the kitchen he had even made a piece of toast for the little guy and was doing his best to pacify him with it until I could get the real food ready.

Bella, bless her little heart, did her very best to take care of Ainsley, too. She dressed Ainsley up in every costume – and variation thereof – that she had in her room. Crowns were produced and coronations took place and, by early afternoon, Ainsley had been dubbed queen of several fictional countries – both on earth and in outer space. At lunch time Bella lovingly made a peanut butter sandwich for our in-house royalty which contained approximately 3 times the normal amount of said spread, leaving Ainsley stuck at the table for a very long time as she attempted to choke down her meal.

When everyone was finished eating it was, thankfully, time for naps and quiet time. Lucas, along with his favorite blanket and sippy cup, went down without so much as a peep. Bella hauled her special Princess couch out into the living room for Ainsley to rest on and the three of them settled in for a Toy Story marathon. I know that popcorn was made at some point during the afternoon but, aside from that, I didn’t really hear too much out of them. And, amazingly, no one was coming in every 5 minutes, asking for something else to drink, or to tell me that they were “lonely”, or to tattletale on one of the other two because, “she’s laying on my side of the floor!!!”

By the time Bob came to retrieve his two, I was up and about, with nothing more than some lingering nausea and a nasty headache. Joshua and Bella, fortunately, picked up all their toys and what not without complaint and then went outside to ride bikes and scooters and what not. Bradley came home a while later with some Chinese for him and the kids and a very appropriate anniversary present for me:

Now, if that ain’t super appropriate I don’t know what is!!!

Assuming that I didn’t give him the gift that keeps on giving – that being gastroenteritis – I think we’ll try to have a “take two” this evening. Keep your fingers crossed!!!
